K' ODI N'IGWE
042- WATER
The focus today is on water. People refer to Canada and most developed countries as "Paradise". Although I have lived in five countries and travelled to 25, I have also lived in Canada as a citizen and worked in various sectors there. I desire to make Enugu State like a province of Canada. "K'O di N'Igwe" means "As it is in Paradise", let it be done in Enugu State.
Join me to get in the Lion Building, a leader who knows the meaning of RESPONSIBLE Government. A responsible government is a Canadian philosophy of governing the people. It means caring for the people. It means that the Lives of the people matter first and most.
What is Canadian Infrastructure (water) like in Enugu State? As a leader, I'll give 100% attention to water and Electricity. It must be a 24-hour steady and even supply, uninterrupted.
Two Canadian words here are EVEN and STEADY. These words are used in Canada's Water and Electricity supply. Is it evenly distributed everywhere human beings live, and is it steadily running?. In Canada, it is even and steady.
I have visited and inspected the Enugu State Water Corporation facilities. I had inspected Water Supply facilities in Pretoria West, Western Cape, both in South Africa, and that of a town in Alberta, Canada, and I can tell you what I found.
I can tell you why Enugu people never have water 24 hour-supply and evenly reticulated.
The Enugu State Water Supply facility is about 1/50 of what I saw in those two countries in terms of size and reticulation. This means that as a governor and engineer, I must inject more attention and money into Water provision. A governor MUST lead the project, increasing the capacity of pumps, reservoirs, treatment plants, piping networks, and energy used to sustain the water supply facility. Enugu state has more than a million litres of water in water bodies and sheds, and yet the masses do not have enough. When I saw the Adada dam and river, Ajali, Nheneke, and so many of them(many on my list), I sighed. Adada dam, a huge state project that fits a hydro power site, or an aquatic pond for food production, or a potable water supply for homes, and it is busy wasting away, I shed tears. I have toured around many villages in Enugu State and saw so many water sites and viable waterfalls that can provide electricity for powering water supply systems. We do not necessarily need diesel generators at all pump stations.
Imagine the Canada Water Supply systems are facing a double-devil task, apart from the tasks of supplying steady and evenly reticulated water everywhere, all underground pipes are buried inside steaming pipes to keep the running water unfrozen. Huge amounts of heat energy are required to keep all pipes warm, yet everywhere there is water. Lucky we are, Enugu's weather, Enugu Water Corporation does NOT need as much energy as needed by a town in Canada or South Africa. It just requires a leader who is a technocrat to fix things.
In a town in Cape Verde (in Africa), I saw the same thing. Their water supply facility's capacity is a gigantic one that serves a large number of people.
Enugu Water is still a baby-sized project and must be scaled up if we want to kick-start an industrialized and productive economy.
